Gearing up for an album release - The inside track

It's certainly been interesting since I've been away. Got to do the human interaction thing and go and see some friends which is a good thing. It keeps you grounded being reminded that it's your turn to put on the kettle and make everyone a drink.

Since I've been back it's been time to pull up the sleeves and get involved in the dreaded business side of things. Still the same amount of time sat in front of the computer. Just a hell of a lot less fun. Reading very wordy legal documents is the first thing you have to consider if you're going to go for releasing your work to the masses.

I thought I was actually making headway with distribution when I stumbled across beatsdigital. Sadly that wasn't to be the company folded in on itself shortly after I'd allowed myself to become quite excited about coming up with some off the wall advertising ideas. In fact I'd already started putting some of the ideas into action when I got the dreaded email saying that the company had ceased trading. Which left me in a bit of a dilemma. Having now a date for the release of Living Twice but not the distribution set up to allow that to happen.

I'm relieved to say that after going back to the drawing board so to speak. It is possible to deliver on the promise of worldwide availability by 25th April 2011. Those of you who like the gadgets with an i in front of the name are lucky enough to be able to get your hands on a copy of the album already. Living Twice is currently sitting on the virtual shelves of itunes  The content is DRM free so you shouldn't have any problems shifting songs about onto devices that you own. I believe that once you have purchased something it should be yours to freely use. The DRM model was in my opinion flawed by being too restrictive on what people could do with their music after they brought it. So for those of you who like a physical CD bearing their music after it's downloaded your burning software shouldn't kick up any stupid messages telling you that you're not allowed to do that... You get the idea.

For those of you that have joined the mailing list keep an eye on your inbox you should be receiving mail in the very near future. Just in the throws of finalising the goodies that will go along with the first mailing. So if you're not already on there and you're interested in some exclusive content now would be the time to make your way to the website to sign up. We've also removed the age restriction on there after several complaints that it was slightly unfair.

In amongst all the legal stuff I have still been producing the music that you enjoy. Just finished mixing a new track which will surface soon. Have also been travelling around online to the various profiles that exist and generally tidying and updating. Those of you that first encountered the music on myspace will have noticed that a lot of effort has recently gone into updating that profile and bringing the content there in line with other places. My own website will probably be next for an overhaul as the clock begins to tick down to that all important release date.
